Images of an ancient Greek statue have created a buzz online as some suggest that it depicts a laptop computer.
Known as the ‘Grave Naiskos of an Enthroned Woman with an Attendant,’ the odd aspect of the statue first came to light a few years ago, but has recently gone viral as media outlets noticed the uncanny art.
While art historians claim that the object in question is merely a small chest, more imaginative viewers have put forward the fantastic possibility that it is actually a laptop computer.
They note the two small holes on the side of the object and argue that they could be indicators of cable ports that reside on the side of a laptop.
Pointing to additional images of the art that provide a clearer view of the object’s dimensions, they also say that it is remarkably narrow for an alleged box.
As to how a laptop would have found its way to ancient Greece, time travelers are the most tantalizing suspect although aliens have also been offered as a potential source for the device.
The YouTube user who first publicized the oddity has theorized that the artwork depicts the Oracle of Delphi, which was said to have been used to contact the Gods.
And, proving that even skeptics can’t seem to agree on what the object is, there are those who insist that the ‘laptop’ is a Greek writing instrument.
In the end, much like all great art, what is seen in the piece likely depends on the perspective of the individual observer.
